Griff Rhys Jones has had an amazing career spanning over the past 40 years in which he rose to the top of UK comedy and received recognition from around the world.

From 'Not the Nine O'Clock News' to 'Alas Smith and Jones' alongside Mel Smith, Rhys has had the world in stitches many a time.

The Welsh comedian is currently touring the country with his live show 'Where Was I?', and we were lucky enough to spend a little time with him this morning.

"So have you been to New Zealand before?" Jason asked.

"I came in 1985, just after Live Aid, actually that was when we were in our pomp, we'd just done Live Aid and introduced Queen, and now I'm here, and Bohemian Rhapsody is about to open, and I find that I've been from it," Griff replied.

In this clip of Queen performing at Live Aid, Mel and Griff introduce the band, something that the new movie missed.

As well as dealing with blockbusters leaving him out, Griff revealed that he's dealing with a domestic travel issue that a lot of us seem to have.

"My daughter, last Christmas, she said 'Daddy, I'm not coming to Suffolk for Christmas, it's too far, I'm going to go to Thailand," Griff said.

Expensive domestic travel is an issue that New Zealanders know all too well as Jason explained that going overseas for Christmas is cheaping than getting down to the Hawkes Bay to spend it with his family.

Despite this premium for NZ travel, Griff is determined to see all of New Zealand this time around, after his comedy partner left him to read the weather in Christchurch back in 1985.

"Mel decided he'd leave me to do the publicity," Griff said, "Mel got in a car and drove all around the South Island, visiting Glaciers. It's such a bizarre thing for anyone that knew Mel, to think that Mel had ever seen a mountain or been out of a hotel room in his life."

We're sure that you're going to enjoy traveling around our beautiful country Griff!
