Yes, you read that right, Kmart New Zealand has become the first NZ retail store to go cruelty-free!

All of their products across the OXX and ANKO brands within the beauty category now have the tick of approval under the Leaping Bunny Programme which is the globally recognised gold standard for cruelty-free cosmetics, personal care, household and cleaning products.

For Kmart to gain this approval, the entire supply chain had to be forensically investigated, including all raw materials and individual ingredients.

John Gualtieri, Kmart & Target Chief Executive Officer said,“As a large-scale retailer we know that we have a responsibility to all the many lives we touch, including those of our much-loved animals.

We are delighted to have received cruelty-free approval under the Leaping Bunny Programme, as it marks an important and significant step for our Kmart teams, who have been working incredibly hard over the last few years on incorporating sustainability and positive change into our products.”

Kmart's new cruelty-free range launched in stores Monday and features a wide range of skincare products as well as makeup products - including bush, eyeshadow and lipsticks.

The CEO of Cruelty Free International, Michelle Thew said, “We have seen first-hand the passion of the Kmart team in demonstrating their commitment to ending animal testing for the products we all use on a daily basis.

Kmart joins over 1,000 brands internationally as a proud partner of the Leaping Bunny family and is the first Australian retailer to obtain Leaping Bunny approval.”

The Leaping Bunny approval is a part of Kmart's People and Planet campaign which they recently launched, and this new accreditation will likely pave the way for other big-name brands to follow.

You can grab yourself some of Kmart's cruelty-free beauty range at any of your local stores or online at kmart.co.nz
