Universal has finally released the first official trailer for the movie adaptation of Wicked!

After two decades as one of the most beloved Broadway musicals, Wicked is finally making its long-awaited journey to the big screen.

The prequel to the much loved Wizard of Oz tells the story of what happened before Dorothy followed that iconic yellow brick road and Elphaba was ostracized for her green skin becoming the Wicked Witch of the West.

Starring Emmy, Grammy and Tony-winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.

The trailer shows Cynthia and Ariana singing two of Wicked's biggest hits - Defying Gravity and Popular - as the pair meet for the first time as roommates at Shiz University.

While Wicked was initially expected to be one movie, Director Jon M. Chu shared in 2022 that it was split into two after it became "clear that it would be impossible to wrestle the story of 'Wicked' into a single film without doing some real damage to it."

“Are people born wicked, or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?” We'll find out with Wicked: Part One being released November 28, 2024.

Part Two is set for release in November 2025.
