Today marks 48 years since Swedish supergroup ABBA won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with their memorable and energetic song 'Waterloo.'

Held at The Dome in Brighton on April 6, the legendary musicians won Eurovision with 24 points, which might not sound like much compared to modern competitions, but second place only had 18 points.

Following the win, Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad became overnight sensations.

While the song has long been a party favourite and guaranteed floor-filler, the breakthrough track also went on to be officially named the greatest ever Eurovision song in 2020.

'Waterloo' was the first of ABBA's nine UK number one singles, topping the charts for two weeks. It also topped the charts in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, West Germany, Ireland, Norway, South Africa and Switzerland.

In total, it sold nearly six million copies, making it one of the best-selling singles in history.
