Retired veterinary surgeon Val, 94, left host Bradley Walsh, and viewers, in hysterics at his witty responses as he took on The Vixen.

When asked what he planned to do with any winnings, Val surprised everybody with his response.

"I will be 95 next month, so I expect it will be going in the bank before I can spend it all.

"Then I'll die and the kids can have it."

"It's quite a lovely and chirpy outlook you have on life Val," replied Bradley as he attempted to make light of the comment. "If we bag four or five grand you could get that spent on the candlesticks."

Val then had the audience in fits of laughter again as he corrected the gameshow host and said "No, I was thinking of the grave."

Val scored a respectable £5,000 in the cash builder round, facing off against The Vixen. He made Bradley laugh once more saying he was only "sort of" happy with his winnings, as he "normally does better" when he watches his favourite programme from home.

The Chase screens every weekday at 5pm on TVNZ1 or watch at TVNZ+.
