The highly anticipated trailer for Dune: Part Three has been released, promising and epic and intense finale to the trilogy.

The film is the third and final instalment in Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herberts seminal 1965 novel of the same title.

This first trailer sees further war and political upheaval in Arrakis and beyond, with hints to a possible future child between Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya), suggesting the two reconcile after the end of Dune: Part Two. This indicates a potential major departure from the source material, 1969’s Dune: Messiah, a book which has long been thought too challenging, meandering and dense for a succinct screen adaptation.

The trailer shows us Paul as we've never seen him before. No longer a fresh faced boy, with scarring surrounding his eyes and an almost sinister stare, the trailer teases the expansion of Paul’s imperial rebellion.

In an exchange between Paul and his mother, played by Rebecca Ferguson, Paul says “The more I fight … the more our enemies fight back. I’m doing the best that I can to protect my family. How did father do it?" She replies “Your father never started a war”.

On Monday evening, stills of nine characters from the movie and several exciting new cast members were released. These included Pattinson, Jason Momoa, and the previously unannounced Isaach de Bankolé as the Fremen leader Farok.

There are several sneak peeks of spaceship battles, and fans finally were able to see the platinum-haired Scytale, played by Robert Pattinson; Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), and Alia (Anya Taylor-Joy) also appear with faces caked in mud and blood

Dune: Part Three is coming to NZ cinemas, 17th December 2026.
