On November 22, 1963, a wave of shock and grief swept the United States and the rest of the world as President John F. Kennedy was assassinated while visiting Dallas.

He was buried three days later on November 25th, 1963.

Amidst the tragedy, there was one moment in particular that left no eye dry across the planet; and that moment was when JFK Jr., who was celebrating his third birthday on the day, raised his hand and saluted his father's casket as the funeral caisson passed.

While it’s unclear whether JFK Jr. learned how to salute on the day of his father’s burial or prior, the moment has remained engraved in our memory ever since.

The president was fatally shot by former U.S. Marine Lee Harvey Oswald.
