To mark the Anzac centenary the world's largest poppy is being built at the Auckland Domain. 59,000 metal discs will form a giant poppy (40 metres in diameter) to symbolise the number of New Zealand men and women who were wounded or killed in WW1.

All New Zealanders, here and globally, can become involved by going online to www.giantpoppy.co.nz to make a donation to purchase a poppy; it will be placed on their behalf until noon April 24. The poppy is open from 8am to 10pm every day (until Monday 27 April).

Check out time lapse footage of the poppy being 'built' by the public.
