Sir Paul McCartney posed on the notorious Abbey Road crossing on Monday - originally made famous by his band The Beatles' album cover from 1969.

The legendary musician was back at his old stomping ground for a secret gig, which brought out some of the music and film industry's most glistening stars - including Kylie Minogue and Johnny Depp.

Sir Paul looked in great spirits as he headed out to the crossing to strike a pose on it - 49 years after the famous album cover was shot in the same location.

After shooting his impromptu throwback snap, the singer stepped out onto the steps of the studios to wave at those gathered around the venue.

The 76-year-old put on a spirited display in a cornflower blue shirt, maroon slacks and black jacket. He finished the look off with black sandals and shades.
