Following the passing of Britain's beloved Queen Elizabeth II eight weeks ago, it has been revealed Her Majesty wrote a secret letter to the people of Sydney in November, 1986.

However, the letter is currently being kept inside a vault in a historic building of the Australian city and can't be opened for another 63 years.

According to 7NEWS Australia, nobody, not even the late monarch's personal staff, is aware of what the letter says because it is hidden inside a glass case in a secure location.

One thing is sure, though: it can't be opened until 2085.

Addressed to the Lord Mayor of Sydney, the instruction reads: "On a suitable day to be selected by you in the year 2085 A.D, would you please open this envelope and convey to the citizens of Sydney my message to them."

It is simply signed, "Elizabeth R."

As head of state, Queen Elizabeth II visited Australia 16 times.

The Queen's reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

She died on September 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, at the age of 96.
