There has been one confirmed Covid-19 death today in New Zealand. Nigel Te Hiko passed away yesterday afternoon at Waikato hospital.

Nigel was the brother of a previous Covid-19 patient, Alan, who passed away nearly two weeks ago.

Today there has also been one new confirmed case of COVID in managed isolation, the Ministry of Health has reported.

Today's new case is a woman in her 30s who arrived from Dubai on the 9th of September and is managed isolation. She is linked to the three border cases announced yesterday.

As it stands, there are three people in hospital currently, including one patient in intensive care.

That brings the total number of active cases to 83 in New Zealand, with 55 in the community.

The total number of confirmed cases in New Zealand since the pandemic began is 1,451.

Auckland is currently in alert level "2.5", with tighter restrictions than normal level 2 including a 10-per person limit on social gatherings other than funerals or tangi.

The rest of the country is at level 2.

On Moday the Government decided to keep the current settings for now.

If the current trend in case numbers continued, Aucklanders would be allowed larger gatherings from Wednesday next week, while the rest of the country would move to level 1 from Tuesday next week.
