While she's best known for her role as Bella Swann in the Twilight franchise, Kristen Stewart has just landed her first-ever Golden Globe nomination for her haunting portrayal of the "People's Princess" in the biopic Spencer.

Stewart in the role of Princess Diana has earned rave reviews since the film received a standing ovation when it debuted at Venice Film Festival on 3 September.

And now the 31-year-old has been nominated for the Best Actress in a Drama motion picture.

Kristen will face off against Lady Gaga (House of Gucci), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter), Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) and Nicole Kidman (Being The Ricardos) when the 79th Golden Globe awards take place on 9 January 2022.

Spencer focuses on the breakdown of Diana's marriage to Prince Charles, centring on a three-day period in the early '90s during one of the princess's final Christmas holidays at Sandringham.

The movie also highlights the love she had for her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Charles and Diana separated in 1992 and divorced four years later in what was an unprecedented move in modern times for an heir to the British throne.

Diana died in a Paris car crash in 1997 at the age of 36.
