Usually one to keep out of the public eye, Michael Jackson's youngest son has stepped into the spotlight to highlight climate change.

Bigi Jackson — who was previously known as Blanket — made a rare TV appearance on Good Morning Britain as he follows in the footsteps of his late father as an environmentalist.

The 19-year-old spoke about his commitment to increasing awareness of climate change at the Thriller Night Halloween Party fundraiser hosted at his family's Los Angeles estate.

He said: "I do think it's important that we all know about it. And I think we have some work to do, but our generation knows how important it is."

The teen also briefly talked about his dad while standing in a room festooned with the King of Pop's iconic costumes and images of him performing through the years.

"There's a lot of history in this house and the studio here. That's what he [Michael Jackson] was all about. That's what each of us want to do: make things that people can enjoy and hopefully benefit their lives."

The party which was hosted by Bigi's brother, Prince Jackson, aimed to raise funds for the Heal Los Angeles Foundation, a charity aimed at improving the lives of inner-city youth.

Unlike his older brother and sister, Bigi – whose birth name Prince Michael Jackson II - has rarely been seen in public since his father passed away in 2009.

The teen was given the nickname 'Blanket' by the public after he was held over the edge of a balcony with a blanket over his head by his father when he was just eight months old.

The Thriller hitmaker later apologised for the shocking situation saying in a statement: "I offer no excuses for what happened."

"I got caught up in the excitement of the moment. I would never intentionally endanger the lives of my children."

Bigi's mother was a surrogate, and her identity has never been publicly disclosed.
