Ever since Netflix's swoon-worthy series Bridgerton hit our screens, fans can't get enough of the high-society scandals centred around the family.

And following the excitement the incredibly popular series - adapted from Julia Quinn's novels - officially has a third and fourth season coming our way, the streaming service has now revealed season three will stray from its source material.

While the first two seasons followed the books - first focusing on Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and then on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathon Bailey) - the third will focus on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington’s love story, instead of Benedict Bridgerton.

"It is only fair that in this author's third year chronicling the marriage mart, Mayfair’s social season should find its focus on a third son… as well as a third daughter," Netflix posted to announce the news.

At the end of season two, which dropped on Netflix back in March, things were not looking good for Penelope.

In the season finale, she lost her best friend, Eloise, and she overheard her longtime crush Colin telling a group of his friends that he would "never dream of courting" Penelope, causing her to leave a ball, heartbroken.

Bridgerton's first season was a runaway hit for Netflix, having been watched by an estimated 63 million households across the globe.
