After his sudden death in 2009, Michael Jackson's eldest children Prince and Paris haven't shied away from the public spotlight - yet they're very rarely seen together in public together.

So their joint appearance to honour their late father at the 2022 Tony Awards was extra special.

Taking to the stage at Radio City Music Hall, the brother-and-sister duo introduced a performance by the cast of MJ: The Musical.

"A lot of people seem to think our dad Michael Jackson changed popular music forever," Prince said to the audience. "And who are we to disagree?

"But what people may not know is he loved musicals, on film and on the stage. That's why we are so incredibly honoured to introduce the night's first nominee for best musical, MJ, which, using many of his iconic hits, looks at the complexities and brilliance of our father's process."

The musical takes audiences inside Jackson's creative process, depicting the singer rehearsing for his 1992 Dangerous World Tour.

It features over 25 of the singer's biggest hits and is directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon.

The Estate of Michael Jackson is a producer.

MJ: The Musical won four Tonys out of the 10 it was nominated for, including Best Leading Actor in a Musical.

Unlike his older brother and sister, Bigi – who was given the nickname 'Blanket' - did not attend the event.
