Sir David Attenborough has admitted he doesn't have long left to live.

The 92-year-old nature documentarian made the observation while musing on the future of our planet, saying he "can't bear" to think about what that future looks like.

Attenborough has been a long-time environmentalist and activist and is dedicating his final years to showing viewers the impact we're having on the planet, and how to fix it.

However, he doesn't think we've done enough to avoid a climate catastrophe.

According to the Sun, he said: "I'm just coming up to 93, and so I don't have many more years around here. I find it difficult to think beyond that as the signs aren't good."

However, Attenborough seemed to have hope in the next generation, praising those who took part in recent environmental protests.

He told The Guardian: "Young people may lack experience but they also have clear sight. They can see perhaps more clearly than the rest of us who have been around for some time.

"My generation is no great example for understanding – we have done terrible things. If we are not making progress with young people we are done."

Attenborough, who has been making documentaries since 1952, has previously presented titles like the BBC documentary Climate Change: The Facts and Netflix series Our Planet, and is set to present the BBC Planet franchise over the next four years.

He's also set to voice Frozen Planet II (to release in 2021) and Planet Earth III (2022).
