A contestant on The Chase has revealed how the wildly popular quiz show is run behind the scenes - after walking away with £5,666.

In 2016, Lee Chambers took part in the show but has only recently decided to open up about his win, revealing the strict rules you have to follow when you come out on top.

While the psychologist had to keep tight-lipped about beating Shaun Wallace - not mentioning to anyone that he had won for six months until the gameshow aired on TV - he did receive his cheque in the mail about a month after filming the episode.

He also admitted that the set looks very different in real life and that filming took around three hours.

"You walk onto the set and you see all the cameras and the props and it looks very different than it does on the television.

"There were a lot of pauses. Overall it probably took three hours," he said.

So what is host Bradley Walsh and The Chasers really like behind-the-scenes?

The Londoner praised Walsh, saying he was very accommodating, regularly checking if they were happy and comfortable and said that quizmaster Shaun was a "smashing chap".

He said: "It was a real experience and really enjoyable. It's definitely worth applying. Even if you don’t win, it's a great experience and a great day."

The Chase screens every weekday at 5pm on TVNZ1.
