We're used to seeing her in a grey suit with her hair slicked back, but Anne Hegerty's costume on The Chase would be a lot sexier if she had her way.

In a new interview with BBC Radio Manchester, the Governess revealed she wanted to spice up her image with some bondage gear but was shut down by ITV bosses.

She said: "I really would like my costume to include high heels, fishnet stockings and a whip, but they don't seem to want to go for that."

Discussing how her outfit for the show had instead been decided, the unstoppable quiz titan - who joined The Chase in 2010 - said that in spite of it being an expensive and quality brand, the suit looks like it was purchased "from a charity shop."

The 63-year-old explained: "They sent me with our fashion stylist to a shop to try on some clothes, and the stylist took some pictures and sent them back to the producer.

"When I got back to the studio the producer said, 'Did you have a nice shopping trip?'

"And I said, 'Oh, yes. I think I'm going to have a nice, little, navy Chanel trouser suit,' and she said, 'I think you're not.'

She continued: "I went, 'OK,' and then I saw what they were going to put me in and I was like, 'Right, well, clearly there's going to be no room for vanity here.'

"It's actually quite an expensive Italian fashion house, it's just I manage to make it look as if it's been bought from a charity shop."

However, the quizzer did get to chose her nickname herself over the original suggestion "The Headmistress" as she claimed "The Governess" was "more kinky".
