Six years after his passing, David Bowie fans are set to see rare and never-before-seen footage of the illustrious performer in a new documentary, Moonage Daydream.

And now we've had our first look at the film in the first official trailer!

The film features five decades worth of material from Bowie's archives, from exclusive drawings, recordings, and films to journals, personal footage, and unseen performances.

It also includes 40 remastered songs and conversations with the star which have never been shown to the public before.

The film is "neither documentary nor biography, but an immersive cinematic experience built, in part, upon thousands of hours of never before seen material."

The project has reportedly taken around four years to develop and has involved watching thousands of hours of Bowie footage.

The documentary - which was sanctioned by the singer's estate — will arrive in cinemas in September.

The 'China Girl' singer died two days after his 69th birthday in 2016, after battling liver cancer for 18 months.
