U2 are known for their charitable deeds, fundraisers and general humanitarianism - so it comes as no surprise Bono and The Edge turned up in war-torn Ukraine to perform a concert in a Kyiv train station, which is currently being used as a bomb shelter amid the Russian invasion.

At the personal invite of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the superstars played a surprise 40-minute acoustic set.

Part of the concert saw the pair belt out a cover of Ben E. King's 'Stand By Me,' in which they changed the lyrics to "Stand by Ukraine."

They also played their own hits 'With or Without You', 'Angel of Harlem', 'Desire', and 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'.

"President Zelensky invited us to perform in Kyiv as a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and so that's what we've come to do," the band tweeted.

Videos on social media captured their haunting performance.
