Getting a tattoo of a late family member is meant to be a meaningful tribute.

But one woman was left devastated after her £250 tattoo of late grandma Thelma Jackson ended up looking more "like Rod Stewart."

Sarah Jackson booked to have a giant portrait inked on her upper arm at Creative Tattoo Warrington after her usual tattooist was on a break.

However, when the 38-year-old was shown a photo of the tribute she "burst into tears."

Taking to Facebook last week, Sarah shared the original picture of smiling Thelma next to the 22cm-long and 13cm-wide tattoo.

Users were quick to compare the botched tat Sarah saved for six months to afford to the 'Maggie May' hitmaker.

She said: "When people were saying it looks like Rod Stewart I just sat there crying my eyes out.

"I was looking forward to having the permanent reminder of her, it’s the way I express myself. I'm heartbroken all over again."

Sarah now faces numerous laser treatments to remove it.
