2/5 'Mister Ed' was not just any horse - he could talk to his owner, Wilbur! But this would get Wilbur in all kinds of trouble. The show aired from January 5, 1961, to February 6, 1966, and was one of the most successful nonsensical sitcoms during that time.

3/5 Mister Ed was voiced by actor Allan Lane, and portrayed by Palomino horse, Bamboo Harvester. Four years after the cancellation of 'Mister Ed', aged 19, Bamboo was euthanised due to age related ailments. Lane had a very successful film career from 1930's-1960's. Some of his big roles included the Shirley Temple film 'Stowaway', 'The Law West Of Tombstone' and his portrayel of "RCMP Sergeant Dave King". His last role was voicing 'Mister Ed', before passing away from cancer in 1973, aged 64.

4/5 Alan Young (Wilbur Post): His role on 'Mister Ed' made him a household name. In the late 60's, he retired from acting for several years. Before returning in 1974 to voice 'Scrooge McDuck', 'The Smurfs', 'The Chipmunks' and 'Scooby-Doo'. In recent years, he has focused on writing scripts and writing books. Young currently lives in California, at the age of 96.

5/5 Connie Hines (Carol Post): Hines was best known for playing Carol on the television show 'Mister Ed'. After the series ended she took guest parts on numerous shows, like 'Bonanza', 'The Mod Squad', 'Perry Mason' and 'The Millionaire', before she retired in 1971. Hines died from heart problems in 2009 at her home in Beverly Hills. She was 78.
