Mama koala, Lizzy, and her little joey, Phantom, were attempting to cross a busy highway in Brisbane, Australia, when tragedy struck. The two were hit by a car and were instantly rushed to the pet hospital.
Lizzy had suffered facial injury and a collapsed lung, and required life-saving surgery. But miraculously, baby Phantom was totally unscathed. However, at only 6 months old, the little joey was too young to be separated from his mum...
So doctors decided to do something unique. They let Phantom remain with Lizzy during her surgery, and he happily nuzzled her neck while doctors worked diligently.
Now, perhaps due to the comforting hugs and snuggling of this brave little joey, Lizzy is doing just fine. Her surgery was a success and she is now on the road to recovery.
We wish little Phantom and his beautiful mum Lizzy all the best!
