McDonald's have launched their vegetarian burger 'The McVeggie' nationwide, although the burger isn't actually suitable for vegetarians.

The McVeggie patty is made from cheese, potato, peas, corn, carrot and onion. But as identified in the small print, the burger is "not 100 per cent vegetarian due to our preparation procedures".

The Patty itself is cooked in the same oil as McDonald's chicken and seems to only suit those who aren't afraid of the odd taste, or even stray piece of chicken sneaking into their burger.

Many people have voiced their concerns on social media which doesn't bode well for the big promotion of McDonald's New Zealand's newest item on the menu.

Although McDonald's the name suggests vegetarian, McDonalds have opted to use the burger as a 'plant based' option.

"We're always looking to change and evolve our menu and a number of our customers have asked us to look at plant-based burgers" said McDonald's NZ General Manager.
