Toni shares a delicious Parāoa Parai (Fry Bread) recipe in celebration of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

Parāoa Parai (Fry Bread) is a much-loved Māori delicacy that is often served at hākari (feasts) on the marae.
If you want to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, Toni has shared a super easy recipe that will get you perfect results every time!
These fry bread are crispy and golden brown on the outside, and perfectly fluffy on the inside.
You can serve them alongside your favourite meals or with some delicious dips. Butter or honey is also the perfect accompaniment.
These crunchy clouds of heaven are seriously delicious!
Ingredients:
3 cups warm water
3 teaspoons sugar
1 capful yeast
5 cups plain flour
3 teaspoons salt
Cooking oil (can use vegetable oil or rice bran oil)
Method:
- Dissolve sugar in warm water.
- Sprinkle over the yeast and leave for 10 minutes in a warm place.
- Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl.
- Make a well in the middle and in the yeast mix.
- Stir until you have a nice soft dough (add more flour if it's too sticky).
- Knead lightly into a ball, then leave in the bowl and cover with a tea towel to rise (double in size).
- Turn out onto a floured board and knead again.
- Press out till the dough is about 2-3cm thick.
- Cut into squares or triangles and cook in hot oil until golden.
