The very first trailer for the new movie based on Wham!'s iconic song Last Christmas has been unveiled.

The heart-warming Christmas rom-com – which is also titled Last Christmas – stars Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke alongside Henry Golding of Crazy Rich Asians fame, and Oscar award-winning actress Emma Thompson – who also co-wrote the screenplay.

Directing the movie is none other than Paul Feig who is known for his work on the hilarious comedies such as Bridesmaids, The Heat, Spy, Knocked Up, Snatched, Someone Great – and so many more.

All of that is sure to make for a winning combination!

The first trailer shows Kate (Emilia Clarke) who works "as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop" and Tom (Henry Golding) "seems too good to be true when he walks into her life and starts to see through so many of Kate’s barriers".

Not only is Last Christmas set to the music of the late George Michael, but it will also "premiere brand new unreleased material by the legendary Grammy-winning artist".

Speaking with BBC News, Paul Feig revealed: "[George Michael] was putting together his new album when he passed.

"And one of our tracks is one of those songs, and it's just an absolutely amazing song that I'm so excited the world is going to get to hear now."

"It's not a musical, but George's music affects the story," Feig adds. "There are a couple of sections where the actors are actually interacting with the music and other sections where George's music is driving, or underscoring the story. So it's a nice mix of being neither a jukebox movie nor straight-up musical."

Last Christmas is set to be released in New Zealand on November 7 and we definitely can’t wait to watch it!
