Coronavirus: New Zealand has 95 confirmed new cases of COVID-19 and sadly two deaths

Today New Zealand has 95 new cases of Covid-19 in the community and sadly two deaths, reports the Ministry of Health.

The first death is of a patient at Middlemore Hospital.

The second death was a patient at Auckland City Hospital.

Of today's new cases, 75 are in Auckland, 11 are in Waikato, five are in Bay of Plenty, one is in Nelson-Tasman, two are in Canterbury and one is in Lakes.

The total number of cases in this outbreak is now 9,552.

There are 56 people in hospital, including four patients in intensive care.

To date, 94% of New Zealanders have had their first dose and 89% are fully vaccinated.

New Zealand has now moved to the new traffic light system, with Auckland, Northland, Taupō and Rotorua Lakes Districts, Kawerau, Whakatane, Ōpōtiki Districts, Gisborne District, Wairoa District, Rangitikei, Whanganui and Ruapehu Districts moving to red.

The rest of the North Island and the whole of the South Island is at orange.

All businesses, including cafes and restaurants, are able to open again with the use of vaccine certificates.

New Zealand has had 12,347 confirmed cases since the pandemic began last year and 45 deaths.
