Today New Zealand has seven new confirmed cases of COVID and one probable case in the community, as well as one new confirmed case in managed isolation, says Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield.

The community cases are all linked to the current South Auckland cluster.

The managed isolation case is a woman in her 30s who is in quarantine at the Four Points by Sheraton in Auckland.

There are ten people in hospital, including two patients in intensive care.

That brings the total number of active cases to 123 in New Zealand, with 104 in the community.

The total number of confirmed cases in New Zealand since the pandemic began is 1,332.

Cabinet are meeting today to decide whether to change the current alert levels for Auckland and the rest of New Zealand.

The current alert settings - level 3 in Auckland and level 2 in the rest of the country - are in place until 11.59pm on Wednesday 26 August.

Among the factors that will be considered are the number of new cases, whether they can be linked to the South Auckland cluster, and how the contact-tracing system has been performing.

Ministers will also consider the advice of Bloomfield.
