Coronavirus: New Zealand has three new confirmed cases of COVID-19

Today New Zealand has two new confirmed cases of COVID in the community and one in managed isolation, the Ministry of Health has reported.

The community cases are linked to the current South Auckland cluster.

The MIQ case is a child, who arrived in New Zealand from India.

There are two people in hospital, including one patient in intensive care.

There is one previously reported case who is considered to have recovered today.

That brings the total number of active cases to 112 in New Zealand, with 74 in the community.

The total number of confirmed cases in New Zealand since the pandemic began is 1,416.

Since yesterday's 1pm update, two deaths related to the cluster have been confirmed.

A man his 50s died at Middlemore Hospital yesterday morning, and former Cook Islands Prime Minister and general practitioner Dr Joe Williams, 82, died at Auckland City Hospital last night.

They are the 23rd and 24th Covid-19 deaths in New Zealand and the first since May 24.

After 18 days, Auckland moved into level 2 like the rest of the country on Sunday at 11.59pm, except with stricter rules on gatherings.

Gatherings for Aucklanders are restricted to 10 people at level 2, while a 50-person limit is in place for funerals and tangi.
