David Nyika has won New Zealand's 13th medal of the Tokyo Olympics after claiming bronze in the men's 81-91kg boxing today.

The 25-year-old Hamilton fighter won the bronze after losing his semifinal against ROC's Muslim Gadzhimagomedov.

Gadzhimagomedov - who is the world's top-ranked heavyweight, and the reigning amateur world and European champion who has not lost as an amateur boxer in four years - won all three rounds by 4-1, 4-1, 3-2.

The overall score was a split decision with 4-1.

The Argentinian judge gave it to Nyika, but the other four (Thailand, Australia, Uganda, Poland) had Gadzhimagomedov on top.

Nyika's medal is New Zealand's first Olympic boxing medal in 29 years.

Congratulations David!
