Duchess Kate has worn Princess Diana's tiara at a state banquet for the visiting King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.

Kate and Prince William were among a clutch of royals, headed by Queen Elizabeth, who turned out to greet the Dutch royals.

Kate was especially striking in her late mother-in-law's tiara, a diamonds-and-pearls bauble known as the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara that Kate has worn before.

Dating from 1914 and also known as Queen Mary's Tiara, Diana famously wore it during her visit to Washington with Prince Charles in 1985.

The tiara itself isn't the lightest, Diana often complaining the piece gave her headaches, although the Duchess, having now worn it twice, did not seem phased.

Kate wore a matching pair of pearl-and-diamond drop earrings, with a heavy diamond-and-pearl necklace, fitting perfectly with her Alexander McQueen dress, an icy blue-grey taffeta ball gown.

The Royals hold a special place for the couple, as the king and queen hosted Kate in October 2016 when she visited the Netherlands on her first solo trip abroad.
