Hilary Barry is wowing fans with her latest magazine cover ... and it's all for a good cause.

Dressed in just an oversized lilac shirt - which has been buttoned low - and a pair of heels, the 50-year-old can be seen posing on a couch on the cover NEXT magazine.

According to the publication, Barry decided to bare "almost all" as part of a bid to "speak out against age shaming" and "take a stand against the policing of women's bodies".

"If I can use my profile to project confidence in my body, and in doing so make another woman more confident in hers, I will," she said.

Appearing on New Zealand screens since 1993, Barry has been subjected to ridicule over her attire, image, and her decision to be a working mother.

But now, feeling "more confident at 50 than ever", she is taking a stand.

The publication's editor-in-chief, Nicky Dewe, said: "We want women to do what's right for them, celebrate what they've got and, especially as they get older, not feel pressured to dress or act a certain way. Hilary is owning it, as we all should feel free to do."

Taking to Instagram, the much-loved Seven Sharp presenter shared a picture of the cover, writing: "Thank you @nextmagazinenz for embracing women of all ages."

Last year Barry won The New Zealand Television Award for Best News and Current Affairs Presenter for her coverage of the Christchurch mosque attacks.
