We're known for our picturesque beaches, mountains and glaciers, so is Te Papa Museum really the best?

The Wellington-based museum has been voted New Zealand's greatest attraction by an international poll published in the Daily Mail today.

The interactive map is made up from TripAdvisor's "Top things to do" in each country around the world and was compiled by VoucherCloud.

Sydney Harbour edged out the Great Barrier Reef as Australia's best, and Niagara Falls topped Canada's list along with the Harry Potter Studio Tour in the United Kingdom.

The list found that most tourism highlights around the world are natural attractions. Historic attractions drew visitors to 54 destinations and 29 countries offer unrivalled religious attractions.

Another 38 countries provide high calibre "generic" tourist attractions designed to entertain visitors.

In the United States, Central Park was number one, and Iguazu Falls was the best choice in Brazil.

But in New Zealand, there's a plethora of adrenaline activities or scenic adventures. Just heading to Queenstown could tick all your daredevil dreams, and a drive up the South Island's rugged West Coast is also a trip you wouldn't forget.

We've made our own list of other top contenders, what else would you put on the list?

The Herald's top five Kiwi attractions

• Head to Queenstown. It's got everything plus more
• Kayak around the Abel Tasman National Park, Nelson
• Drive the rugged West Coast of the South Island
• Hobbiton, Matamata
• Coromandel Peninsula - you have to dip your toes in the water at Hot Water Beach.
