More than two decades after Princess Diana’s tragic death, the Paris city council has revealed plans to honour the beloved British royal in a very special way.

Next month, officials will vote to rename the plaza right above the Pont de l'Alma - the site of the 1997 car crash that killed Diana, her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed and her driver - to "Princess Diana Square."

The square was originally supposed to be named after famous Greek singer Maria Callas, who died in 1977 in Paris.

However, the inauguration was reportedly cancelled when Diana tragically died in August 1997.

Since her passing, crowds of tourists and Parisians alike have been paying their respects at that precise location.

The unofficial memorial ground for the lost princess is home to the golden 'Flame of Liberty,' a life-size replica of the flame of the torch from the Statue of Liberty in New York City.

The "People's Princess" died at a hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.
