While it has been over 13 years since Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles said "I do", we've only seen the Duchess of Cornwall's two children from her first marriage to former army officer Andrew Parker Bowles on a handful of occasions.

Why?

Her son Tom Parker Bowles, who works as a food critic, believes the reason he and his sister, Laura Lopes, lead a more private life is because they're "not quite part of the royal family."

Laura's daughter Eliza was a bridesmaid at Prince William's wedding to Kate Middleton, however, they are not a common sight at most other royal events.

During an interview with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain, Tom explained: "My mother married into it. She’s part of it. We're the common children. We’re just on the side."

When Susanna replied saying: "You know what, I don't think that's how we think of you. We do think that you're part of an extended royal family."

Tom responded with: "I think they'd be appalled to think I was a part of it."

However, things may change once Charles ascends the throne, as he may bestow royal titles upon his stepchildren.
